The piece â€Å"Hunting is Not Those Heads on the Wall† by Baraka and Locke’s An Essay Concerning Human Understanding Book I: Innate Notions† really complement each other. Baraka states art can’t have thought and Locke states we don’t have innate principles. Baraka’s writing helps prove that we don’t have innate properties. Locke’s literature correlates that art can’t have thought but, it rather provokes the thought process. Baraka and Locke explore thoughts and ideas in their pieces of literature. These authors help prove each other’s theories because, Baraka says art can’t have thought while Locke says we don’t have innate properties. Although we have natural motor abilities we don’t learn without first being showed or taught what to do. For instance, as children we don t know how to read when we are born, we are taught how to. Locke expands his thought when he says For if the ideas are not innate, then there was a time when the mind didn’t contain those principles; in which case, the principles are not innate but have some other source.... (Locke, Pg.13). To get a thought or learn something for the first time something needs to provoke the idea within us. To conclude, Baraka and Locke’s works of literature prove each other’s points. Baraka and Locke talk about ideas. We interpret ideas differently sure but, those ideas are provoked we aren’t born knowing them. The way we are raised helps affect how we view things around us. I think Baraka saying art isn t a thought and Locke saying that we don t have innate properties interact with each other. Baraka talks about art not having thought and I compared it to Locke and how our thoughts are provoked. Both concepts are related in ideas and what provokes them and how they are processed.
